RONNIE, BOBBY, RICKY OR MIKE? That is the question

The saddest thing about the collapse of the boy group era is that millions of teenagers will never experience the purity connected to an innocent crush.  One of the biggest debates of the 80s was which member of New Edition was the ultimate!  Now, as the lead singer, Ralph Tresvant was the obvious choice, but deep down inside many of us held a secret, not quite knowing what it was about Bobby Brown that we were drawn to.  After all, swag was not a household word in the 80s it was a nondescript way of life.  Some young ladies were drawn to Ricky, because certainly he had some of the most memorable bridges in R&B history, but confessing that at age 13 was a risk!  Mike had fresh waves, Ronnie had the height of a grown man and that was enough to warrant a crush.

And for the fellas, was it easy to admit which New Edition member’s style you were just dying to emulate?  One look back at those original videos (which if shot today would have had higher definition shot with an iPhone) and its easy to confess now, those young men had style!  So it seems Ralph was onto something when he said, “Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike, if I love the…who cares who you like!”
